CRGI Studentships

Studentships were available to Master's-level students at Alberta-based universities. These studentships will help build research capacity to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of programs, services, and supports designed to respond to the mental health needs of seniors and adults with disabilities.

Criteria

The following eligibility criteria applied:
  • The applicant must be a full-time student.
  • The applicant must be accepted into, or currently studying in, a Master's level graduate program at an Alberta-based university.
  • The applicant's focus of study must relate to the mental health of seniors and/or persons with disabilities.
  • The applicant must reside in Alberta.

Term and Amount of Award

The CRGI Studentship consists of a stipend and a research allowance. Students may be funded for a maximum of three years at $21,500 per year ($20,000 stipend, $1,500 allowance).
 

The following Master’s students have been awarded studentships

Aiden Arnold – University of Calgary

Aiden’s project is titled “The Path to Independence – Helping Senior’s Orientate in Diverse Surroundings”

Trevor Cook – University of Calgary

Trevor’s project is titled “Descriptive Epidemiology of Risk Factors for Major Depression in Canadian Seniors: A Longitudinal Approach”

Kirsten Fiest – University of Calgary

Kirsten’s project is titled “A Longitudinal Study on the Relationship between Depression and Heart Disease in Canadian Seniors”

Sarah Vanderveen – University of Calgary

Sarah’s project is titled “Naming our Gifts and Challenges: A Collaborative Exploration of Definitions of Ability and Disability”

 

Completed Studentships

Sarah Vanderveen, has completed her Master’s program. Her thesis is titled, “Naming our gifts and challenges: A collaborative exploration of definitions of ability and disability.” The goal of her research was to come up with personal definitions and shared understanding of ‘ability’ and ‘disability’ from individuals who have a developmental disability.
